Can you imagine being the disciples of Jesus following His resurrection? There must have been great joy and astonishment, and we know that there was even doubt. The followers of Jesus had seen their hopes for a Messiah crushed on the cross but resurrected from the grave. The logical question for these early Christians would have been, “What next?” Fortunately, Jesus spent His final physical days on earth explaining what was to happen next. He had been teaching them this throughout the last three years, but He teaches it with even greater clarity after the resurrection. He was not going to set up a political kingdom or make a new earthly nation. He is establishing a heavenly kingdom, and He plans to do it through those that believe on Him. There are several portions of Scripture that contribute to explaining God’s mission on this earth, but perhaps the most succinct of these instructional teachings is found in Matthew 28. Let’s use this lesson to reexamine our call as Christians and think about one way we can live this out practically right now.
