Lesson 2 – A Heart Broken For God – Jeremiah 8-9 - Midweek Prayer Meeting

Jeremiah is often called the weeping prophet. His passion, urgency, and zeal to call God’s people to repentance seem to be driven by his broken heart as he saw the people rejecting a relationship with their God. God had mercifully offered multiple opportunities to return to Him, but the people continually chose idols, independence, political alliances and success, and anything else they thought offered physical blessing. Jeremiah called them in many ways to return to the Lord: – When people fall, they get back up. – When someone takes the wrong road, they go back to the right one. – Even birds know when it is time to migrate. Why would these people not return to God in obedience? Jeremiah’s heart was broken as he stood in awe of God’s grace and the people’s rebellion. Let’s notice some of the things that kept Jeremiah tender and broken before the Lord.
