Lesson 3 – Evident Faith - Hebrews 11:1-6 - Midweek Prayer Meeting

Essentials, What Matters In The Church?

There are many churches that have very similar “statements of faith”; however, they can feel tremendously different. Why is this? Simply stating our faith is not enough. Do we own our faith as individuals and as a church? What is the culture, focus, and emphasis of our church? What is described as truly important to us? If something is really important to us, it should be the very thing that stands out about us. These are the “essentials” of the church. So far we have discussed some of these essentials like the authority of Scripture and our submission to it. Tonight, we will take a quick glimpse at evident faith. We do not simply want to have the “proper code” of faith defined by someone else. We desire to have real faith in the one true and living God. Illustration: If you were charged with being a “person of faith”, what evidence could be found against you? How do we know that faith is an essential of the Christian and the church? Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God! So what is real, Biblical faith? Much passes for “faith these days”, but let’s let the Bible clarify it for us.

Scripture References: Hebrews 11:1-6, Romans 10:17, 2 Peter 3:1-18, Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 11:1-40
