Esther - Lesson 5 - The Tables Are Turned - Esther 5:1-8:2 - Wednesday Prayer Meeting 2-1-2023

It is significant to note that the writer has dramatically slowed the timing of the book of Esther. The first four chapters of the book span about nine years of history. The next three chapters cover less than two days. Like slow motion in a movie, this is the portion that the writer wants us to focus close attention. Things to note in this extended reading for this lesson: • The slower progression of time and the detail of events. • This quick change takes place in the heart of the Empire where absolute power rules the known world. • Watch for reversals. There is a constant state of reversal and inversion. • God’s hidden hand is as evident here as any part of the book. • Most of the book tells us facts without speaking to the intentions or motivations of the people involved. These chapters speak directly about the evil in Haman’s heart.

Scripture References: Esther 8:1-2, Esther 7:1-10, Matthew 28:18, Esther 6:1-14, Colossians 2:14-15, Esther 5:1-14, Hebrews 2:14-15, Philippians 2:5-11, Mark 6:23
