    1 Samuel 25 - A Man Against God's Heart - Midweek Prayer Meeting - A Study of Samuel

    1 Samuel 25 - A Man Against God's Heart - Midweek Prayer Meeting - A Study of Samuel

Last week we saw through David what it looks like to allow our responses to others to be guided by faith. (Resist the Natural Response, Be Sensitive to Your Hearts Response to Sin, Humbly Purse Reconciliation, See God's Shaping of Your Life) In 1 Samuel 25, David is tested by another man full of pride and bitterness. David's initial response is less patient, but he ends the chapter expressing gratitude that God kept him from wrongdoing through the wisdom of a woman named Abigail.

1 Samuel 24 - Faith Guided Responses - Tuesday Evening Bible Study - A Study of Samuel

We know that David had been anointed and chosen by God to become king of Israel. Though David knew this years before 1 Samuel 24, he still had not become king. In fact, God had not given David any sort of timeline. David has been chased for a long time by Saul who is trying to kill him. David is stuck in between what he believes by faith will happen and what he is experiencing. One of the most difficult aspects of this must have been that David had no idea where he was in the that timeline. How much longer?
With that in mind, we find in 1 Samuel 24 that David faced a temptation for a shortcut. This shortcut would require him to do wrong. He chose doing right over every other option.

The people of Jesus’ day had become convinced that loving your neighbor included a pure hatred for those that are considered enemies. Jesus says “absolutely not” to this anti-God concept, and we learn it in the example of David in 1 Samuel 24. To do good and be kind to those we are at odds with
shows that we are becoming like the nature of our God
