Ken Crain – Business Administration

     Ken Crain came to Landmark in 1976. He taught in Christian school ministries for thirty-eight years, and served as the principal of Landmark Christian School for twenty-eight years. He has served as an ordained assistant to the pastor and acting treasurer since 2013. 
    He holds several degrees including: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Missouri State University; Graduate of Theology, Baptist Bible College (Springfield); Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education, Sacremento Baptist College; and Doctorate of Education / School Administration from Louisiana Baptist University.     He and his wife Nancy have two sons and a daughter who graduated from Landmark Christian School. He enjoys spending time with his family including six grandchildren, working outside, and going to the beach.

James Sumpter – Assistant Pastor

    James Sumpter serves as the youth and assistant pastor at Landmark. He has spent almost his whole life around LBC. He was saved as a twelve year old and surrendered His life to Jesus as a teenager. After finishing college in 2009, he returned to LBC and has served in a variety of roles. Currently, he leads the teen ministry and helps in the church’s special event and outreach ministries including camps and Bible school.
    James has been married to his wife Joy since 2009. They have a daughter named Ellie, two sons named Boston and Lexington, and two children in heaven. He enjoys anything outdoors and is an avid reader. James loves spending time with the teenagers and trying to disciple them personally. He also coaches the boys’ sports teams at LCS. 
    He strives to see others come to know Jesus Christ in a personal way with real spiritual growth. An emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus, is prevalent in his teaching and preaching.
 

Gordon Young – Music Ministry

    Gordon Young was saved and baptized at the age of seven in Wayne, MI. He graduated from Bible college in 1987. His love for praising God with song, and encouraging others to do the same has kept him in music ministry these many years. He has also served as youth pastor, teacher, Bible college professor, and assistant pastor. God led him to serve on the staff of Landmark Baptist Church in 2012.
     He and his wife Kathy have five adult children, four son in laws, and four grandchildren living in California, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas. Family is of utmost importance to them. Both their physical family and their church family here at Landmark.
 

Guillermo Mazariegos – Spanish Ministry

     Guillermo Mazariegos was saved at the age of fifteen, during a visit to Temple Baptist Church in Powell , TN. After being baptized, he was trained and discipled by encouraging, Godly men and the preaching of Dr. Clarence Sexton. Before arriving in Richmond, he had the privilege of helping to establish two new Spanish works.
   He is a graduate of Veritas Baptist College. He and his wife Tricia have been married for over eleven years and have been blessed with four children: Nathan, Brennen, Peter, and Levi. They love to go on nature walks. As a family, they work and serve together for the glory and praise of God .
 

Don Sumpter – Former Senior Pastor

   *Pastor Don Sumpter passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2019. We are grateful for the time that God allowed him to lead our church. Please pray as we continue to seek God’s will regarding a full time senior pastor.

Pastor Don Sumpter spent most of his life at Landmark Baptist Church. He grew up as part of a growing church as his father, Dr. Jim Sumpter, pastored and guided the congregation to growth and development. Pastor Sumpter was saved and surrendered to preach as a teenager at LBC. He graduated from Atlantic Baptist Bible College in 1986. He served in many capacities at Landmark including teacher, youth pastor, and as assistant and associate pastor.   While serving as Senior Pastor since 2009, God enabled LBC to begin several ministries including a thriving Spanish-speaking ministry. Pastor Sumpter had a compassionate heart for people and families at LBC, in the community, and around the world. He strived to serve people in a personal way. He maintained a Gospel emphasis in his preaching ministry, and seeks to practically apply the Bible to every day life.  Pastor Sumpter was married to Sonya for more than thirty years. He had three grown sons that are married. He had five grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, working on projects, fishing, and spending time outdoors. As a pastor, husband, dad, and “papaw”, he desired to please and serve the Lord.
