Lesson 3 - Finding Encouragement in Discouraging Circumstances - Jer. 20 -Midweek Service
Life can often feel like a paradox: a set of opposite circumstances or contradictory truths that when examined are found to both be proven true. Our desires can feel conflicted. Our emotions can feel unstable. Our thoughts can battle one against the other. This is certainly the case with Jeremiah in our passage for this evening. Jeremiah is a servant of the almighty God of the universe, but he is experiencing some of the most difficult and degrading circumstances that human life could offer. In Jeremiah 20, we will see the heart of a man who finds his relationship with God to be his source of encouragement in an extremely discouraging life.
Scripture References: Jeremiah 29:11, Exodus 22:16, Jeremiah 19:1-15, Jeremiah 20:1-18
