Gideon: God Wins And A Leader Emerges - Judges 7:1-25 - Midweek Prayer Meeting
Last week, we began a study of how God delivered Israel through the a man named Gideon. Our focus on Gideon's personal background led us to see that he was angry, frustrated, afraid, doubtful, and reluctant. These are not your typical qualifications of leadership; however, God was delivering His people by His own strength using Gideon's weakness. The people of Israel were being oppressed by the Midianites and other nomadic tribes that would steal and destroy the agricultural production of Israel each year. God's people were living "cave life". Gideon's family, in contrast, seemed to have been blessed by God in an amazing way. However, when God called Gideon, he challenged God and expressed that he felt God had abandoned them. God showed grace to Gideon and His people and proved His continual presence once more. After challenging, the idolatry of his family and community, Gideon sees 32,000 people gather around him for battle. Still not convinced, Gideon asked God for two more miraculous signs before finally preparing for war.
